Our youth football
program teaches basic fundamental techniques along with high school
formations and plays. It was started by one man and had four teams when it
began in 1992, the Bears, Dolphins, Packers and Raiders. Indianola’s other
two teams are the 49ers, which was added in 1997 and the Colts, which was
added in 2000. The league has grown to consist of 18 teams from eight
different communities and is run by a 12 member board of directors along
with a 12 member auxiliary board.
Each team is made up of 23-25 players from the fourth,
fifth and sixth grades. The team is then divided up into two squads, the
Purple and the Gold. Purple players are younger, smaller and less
experienced than the larger, older Gold squad members. Each squad plays
two quarters of offense and defense a game.
Games are played each Sunday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and
lasting approximately to 5:30 p.m. Check our schedule to find out where
your favorite team plays as there are several sites.
Indianola players sign up a year in advance for the
league as the logistics dictate plenty of advance planning. Returning
players stay on their respective teams and new players participate in a
tryout that takes place in the fall, before school begins. They are
drafted onto one of the town’s six teams. This draft process enables us to
keep the six Indianola teams somewhat competitive in skill level. The
players get to participate in five regular season games and one
championship game at the end of the year. A Super Bowl weekend played at
the end of the season is played for final position placement.
Joining the Indianola teams are the Milo Chiefs;
Norwalk Buccaneers; Winterset Cowboys, Steelers and Falcons; I-35 Patriots
and Jets; Osceola Lions and Redskins; Van Meter Broncos; and the Perry
Giants and Titans.
Stop by and catch these budding gridiron heroes in
action this fall and cheer on your favorite hometown kids.
